Privacy & FAQ

Who runs this site?
The site is not run by a company or a large organisation (as some people seem to think). The site is a project run by one person who is a freelance web designer. The moderators in the forums help to keep an eye on what goes on.

Can I send a problem privately by e-mail instead of using the forums?
As far as the owner of the site is concerned, no. Any problem e-mails that are sent to the webmaster are deleted without being fully read (i.e. as soon as it becomes apparent that an e-mail is a problem, it is deleted). As for the moderators on the forums, it is very much up to them whether or not they make their private e-mail address public. Site policy is to discourage private e-mailing but it is a matter of personal choice for the moderators and other visitors to the site.

I'm sure I've been here before and you used to accept e-mail problems, why don't you accept them any more?
Because it became too much for one person to cope with - which is why the site is now based completely on forums instead of e-mails. The change to forums has saved the site from being closed - which was the other option I was thinking about when it all got too much. You can still read some of the problems that were received by e-mail by browsing the problem archives from the main menu.

What happens to my details after I have joined the forums?
Not a lot really. You can control your personal profile to keep details like your e-mail address private - its completely up to you. Other than that your details just sit on the server. I don't do anything with them, I don't pass them on to other people, I don't sell them.

One thing you should be aware of is that if you make your e-mail address public it will appear on your profile for all to see, which means that it can be spidered and picked up by spam bots (special Internet programs that follow links on web sites looking for e-mail addresses to send spam to).

Do you get paid for running this site?
Nope, this is strictly a spare time Web site. I'm trying to think of ways to generate income to cover the cost of hosting it (hence the Amazon book shop thing - which I haven't had time to implement properly so its not generating anything at all!) but at the moment it costs me money to run the site.
