self harm

I need help
I started to self harm when I was younger (about 12). I stopped for ages but did it again (just once or twice) a good few months ago. My life's gone a bit down hill Iin the last few months ans about 5 weeks ago I started to cut again, only this time I can't stop. I'm not suicidal, but I know I need help. last year i talked to my parents about depression and i asked to go to the doctors about it but they wouldn't let me. I'm worried that I'm gonna get worse and I want help but I cant talk to my parents about it because they'll either not believe me or over react.
please if you know of anything that can help me, websites or groups or anything, I'm only 15 and I don't want this to screw my life up.

Go to the doctors on your own. Your parents do not have to be with you at 15 and your doctor is bound by confidentiality. Tell him you do not want your parents involved so he is clear from the start.

Hey
I work with people who self harm and want you to know that this is not abnormal. Self harm is a way of coping with stress and problems and is in itself a coping mechanism. However self harm is not a healthy coping mechanism and so what you need to find is a more healthy way of coping. Some ways that you can do yourself are -
distraction - try to take your mind off cutting by doing something else.
find another way of coping - whatever works for you. This might be having a bath, or talking to someone you can trust about how you are feeling.
You could try putting an elastic band on your wrist and "pinging" it when you feel like cutting. This will give you the same effect but minimise the harm you do.
Please do seek further help though, you need someone to talk to, counselling is probably a good way forward.
They might have school counsellors or support workers that you could go to, but there are specialist services out there that can help you.
What some people dont realise is that self harm is not necessarily linked to suicide. Lots of people say things like "shes only doing it for attention". That minimises the issue, and whilst there is a little bit of truth in there - it is to get attention, the reason for doing it is a cry for help. You are asking for more support because the support you have isnt adequate.

It is very difficult if you try to stop by yourself. You should really seek professional help and counseling. At least you ahve already detected the problem and want to stop. This is the first step, so know you have to start recovering. Hi,

I went through a similar thing and i didn't know what to do or who to turn to. I ended up trying to commit suicide now I look back and can't believe I did it but I went to the doctors and they did a few blood tests and it turned out to be a hormone imbalance that caused me to feel pretty rubbish constantly. Go to the doctors they may not do a blood test but just telling the doctor will help. Is there anything you can think of that calms you down other then cutting yourself? Have you got something to focus on when everything gets a little to much? I used to draw or take the dog for a run anything to try and clear my head it's the little things that can help to break the cycle.

Let us know when you've been to the doctors.
