Postby PurePurple » Fri Mar 10, 2006 7:18 pm

My options have very quickly been put upon my shoulders, I want to do health and social care or art and music, but everytime we get advice about them, i become more confused :|
My parents want to discuss it but im so confused..

What is your confused about exactly? Maybe a talk with your parents and the career advisor will help you. Explain to them what you are confused about thats what they are there for.... when i was at college i was confused about what i wanted to take and they helped me loads as well as my parents

Just try and find out as much as you can about the course, and then decide which would be best for you.

Is it vocational health and social care that you're talking about? It's a really good class for work experience and learning about people's different needs, but there is quite a bit of coursework involved.

I haven't taken Art, so I'm not sure about that, but friends that have taken it have had quite a bit of work to do, but if it's something you enjoy, it's a good class to take.

Try not to worry too much, you get a couple of weeks to change your mind.

Just pick whatever you like! I can't remember what ones were options but this is what I ended up getting GCSE's in:

- Art
- Music
- Design Technology
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
- French
- Business
- English Literature
- English Language
- Maths

I think thats it...lol...

I really dont like the thought of whole day exams in Art, Ive been given a taster of GCSE music, which is dance music and drum beats and allsorts..

So im considering taking Art and Music because i like them both

Take both! The all day exams are so laid back, you can talk, and have breaks, and walk around and all sorts!

Music was quite hard, but if you can already read music, or play an instrument you shouldnt have a problem :)

We had a piece of coursework - and we had to make a piece of dancemusic. Some people did well, but me, hating dance music, managed to get it changed to piece of rock music...

But there should be lots of opportunities to do that! :)

I did textiles for GCSE and it was an all day exam and like it was said before it was very relaxed you get breaks and can take food in!

I did

English Literature and Language
Maths
Double Science Award
History
RE - Short Course
IT - Short Coure
Textiles
Food Technology
German

We had to chose from the following

Languages - German, French or Spanish
Humanties - History, Geography, RE or Business Studies
Art - Textiles, Art
Technology - Food Tech, Textiles or Wood/Metal

I wanted to do two humanties but the school wouldn't let me, so did art textiles, then my friends were allowed to do two humanities - so it is worth discussing it.

I took Health and social care and I'm half way through my first year! It is ALOT of work especially for the coursework but if you prefer coursework to exams then it should be a good course! (I personally hate this course but it is more to do with the teacher than the subject!)

I took
Health and Social care
German
Religious Studies
and IT was compulsary!
