Dinner - Sad :(

Postby rufio89 » Wed Sep 09, 2009 9:37 pm

Ugh.

My friend is moving to Bristol at the weekend so we're going out for dinner with her tomorrow night. Originally it was supposed to be just 3 of us, who have been close friends since primary school, a girls night sort of thing, but my friend and I havent met her new boyfriend yet, so we decided he should come too, then other people have been invited, so it's now turned out to be 9 of us, which is absolutely fine, except that all 8 of the others are couples. I'm gonna be out for dinner with 4 couples which is depressing enough as it is given that I've just been dumped, but now it turns out we're going to the restaurant that the guy who just dumped me is chef for.

Im not happy :( :(

Sorry to hear that but dont worry though. Considering that all your friends will be there they will no doubt have time for you. I'm sure its the boyfriends who will be nervous - if they havent all met eachother before they are probably going to be the relatively quiet ones. Also the boyfriends will probably spend alot of time talking to eachother about their jobs or sports etc giving you girlies time to discuss other things that you enjoy.

Also dont worry about being where your ex is. He may, or may not be working that night and even if he is, the chef's are normally out of sight so you're not likely to see him.

Relax, enjoy the night and remember what its all for - its a nice send off for your friend who is moving away.
Remember how the runway lights looked one night long ago when you were lost and found your way, and how-you still dont know?

Hold your head up high, have a good time and show him what hes missing lol.Your a bigger person for going into his restaurant when it makes you feel uncomfortable.Just concentrate on the focus of the night, your friend, and give her a good send-off.

It's not even so much that I might see him, I'm a bit hurt that my friend suggested it, when its out of our agreed budget and she's never even eaten there. I just think it's really insensitive :(

Is it too late to suggest you go somewhere else? I would understand if a friend of mine turned around to me and said she didn't feel comfortable going to a restaurant her ex boyfriend worked at.

Yes i agree you could ask to change to somewhere else but have some suggestions in mind and tell her why you want to change, maybe she hasn't realised it would upset you. She is leaving and she probably wants to make it more special which is why she has picked somewhere a bit more expensive
The easy way to keep the cost down is not to have a starter or dessert and stick to soft drinks or even water
You are there for her afterall not really the food

It's not the friend who's leaving who's suggested it, or I wouldnt mind so much, it's the other girl.

So suggest somewhere else and explain why? It's perfectly reasonable
