Radiography can be just as bad as chemo, everyone has different reactions to treatments. I hope it goes okay Ragdoll.

Either way, it's not something to be taken lightly, especially not with someone so elderly

http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Cancer/Pag ... tment.aspx

This NHS article doesn't imply that Chemo is any worse, though it does say that Radiotherapy can cause long-term side-affects, whereas the side-affects of Chemo stops when the treatment stops. Like I said before, I am sure neither are pleasant!

I totally agree that it shouldn't be taken lightly just in my experience I had always been lead to believe that radiotherapy was alot milder and this has been backed up by my own experiences with my assistant (63), my step mum (55) and my uncle who has now passed away from cancer.
My step mum is currently in hopsital from the side affects of her chemo, her immunity is so low. My uncle died last year from cancer and had chemo which made him severly ill, however a few years earlier he had radiotherapy for a different cancer and the side effects where minimal. As I said before my assistant still came to work during his 7 weeks of radiotherapy and he isn't a young man.
I wasn't trying to suggest it wouldn't be horrible just trying to reassure you it sounds alot worse than it is in most cases. They often list all the possible side effects but in most cases people don't get them all, even with the chemo. My step mum has had no hair loss but severe mood swings, nuasea, Inability to function some days due to severe tiredness all of which she has been told are related to the chemo. She also has to keep away from anyone who is ill whereas my assistant was told he need not worry if he came into contact with anyone who was ill. He even told them that a colleges partner had swine flu and they said not to worry. I think the low immunity isue is waht makes the chemo more of a worry.
Anyway I hope you grandma doesn't need it at all

My Grandma died this morning. She caught pneumonia after her operation - she was rushed into hospital, but they couldn't save her.

Ragdoll, darling girl; I'm very, very sorry your gran has gone, but I'm glad it was like this!

Eh, Pee??

Pneumonia has always been known as the "old people's friend", it's a gentle, fast way for them to go - and think of the alternatives with the chemo and everything else - that could have dragged on and on, with your gran suffering more and more. This really is the way I would like to go (but not yet...!)

I completely agree with dipsy, too - the timing of your visit was spot on, and I'm convinced that seeing you made a great difference to her and to you. You'll never forget your last visit, and I hope, eventually, that it will make you feel better, and remember her with love; other members of your family will at some point start feeling guilty (trust me!), but you know that you have nothing to reproach yourself with, you did everything you could for her. That will stay with you for ever.

Lots of love

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi all,

Thanks for your messages. I don't have time to post a proper reply now, but just wanted to say thank you.

I am off work next week, so probably won't post as frequently, if at all.

Toodle pip for now x
