She insists she has researched them all and knows I need them all. they include the kind that replace the stuff in meat (cos i'm a vegetarian) and a few others. She used to give me about 7 Spirulina tablets a day but now she's got something similar in the form of a liquid made with apple juice so I have that instead. I just don't know why I need them all when hundreds of people are just like me (vegetarian etc) and don't have them!

The main thing you need to make sure you keep up on is your iron intake, it is a common cause of illness in vegetarians because most iron comes from meat although there are non meat alternatives....e.g. breakfast cereals.

I have a very good female friend who is vegetarian who has almost died from lack of Iron and she now supplements that by way of iron tablets, the other vitamins and minerals are available from plenty of sources so don't OD on the Tablets....20 to 30 a day is far too many....!!!! The Tablets are meant to be a supplement to your normal diet to keep your intake up...not replace it !!!

I don't have quite so many now, more like 10-15 a day. Just 1 or 2 of each. this is because my mum has found substitutes for some of them, like the stuff in apple juice. but i take too many different kinds, I'm sure I don't need them all!

i've just turned vegetarian and have been warned that multi vitamins are essential (my brother is a nurse and likes to lecture) but my mother would never dream of forcing stuff like that on me :o

perhaps you could print out some info on being vegetarian and what vitamins you DO need, maybe it'll make her realise so many are unnecessary

If I try and show her anything like hat, she doesnt take it seriously, cos she knows theres alot of info on supplements etc out there that is not correct, she would only take notice if it was from a source she trusted. At the moment she's making me have way more than usual cos i'm just getting over a cold.

That simply aint true. If you follow a reasonably varied diet with lots of fruits and vegs you dont need multivitamins.

If I try and show her anything like hat, she doesnt take it seriously, cos she knows theres alot of info on supplements etc out there that is not correct, she would only take notice if it was from a source she trusted. What kind of source would she trust then? I would second the advice given above, go see a doctor or nutritional specialist together with your mother, hopefully they will convince her that all those pills arent necessary.

She trusts sources like the websites she buys the tablets from, and certain professional health people. (sorry not sure of the right words to describe them) I now have about 15-20 tablets every 3 days or so, much more if I get even slightly ill. I also have an amazingly healthy diet, almost everything i eat is organic!

Well the organic things are good - but the vitamin tablets, especially if you're having too many can seriously damage your health in the long term...
