Fancy dress - Help!

Postby dipsydoodlenoodle » Mon May 11, 2009 10:39 am

We'll I'm off to a fancy dress party in a few weeks - the theme is "rock chick through the ages"

I'm just wondering does anyone have any ideas at what I could wear?

I have thought about it LOADS...however every outfit I can think of just looks like a boring every day outfit; one of the girls said she's thinking of going as a goth...My problem is won't the bouncers take one look at us and say "your dress code is too casual you can't come in" - plus the girl whose hen party it is, is a bit "upper class" and all the bars and clubs she'll like don't accept fancy dress...Hmm.

Thanks, unless I can come up with a good outfit then I think I may give it a miss.

I am going out on Friday night for a meal with her, doing a day time activity on Saturday with her so I'm not overly fussed about the saturday night fancy dress, however I'd at least like to come up with an idea...believe me I've looked...I do have a rock chick t-shirt but thats too cliche (it says rock chick on the front lol).

Hey Dispy!

There are a few things you could do, you don't have to go for the obvious goth theme.

You could do a fifties rock chick which would be quite cool! You could wear a polka dot prom dress and black eyeliner, that sort of thing, maybe wear an elvis t shirt!
Then you could go sixties, and wear a black and white mary quant style shift dress or wear something twiggy-esque, or even go for a bit of a hippy chick look.

Then of course there is the seventies, and you could go punk! But you don't have to go full on saftey-pins in your ears, you could go a bit vivienne westwood and wear a tartan dress with a few punky accessories.

There's loads you could do, you could do new romantics, madonna, grunge.

I think the sixties mary quant shift dress would be a good one though!

I've just thought - I used to have a black corset that I could have used for part of the outfit - shame I got rid of it about a month ago in my clear out spree.

How about someone not-so-cliche rock-chick?

Basically be creative with your eye make-up, get a black wig with a fringe and wear something really random. For the upper class you'd be bang on trendy crazy fashion like pixie geldof or daisy lowe, you can always take the wig off if you get tired.

you could also try Karen O from the yeah yeah yeahs:

or lovefoxxx from CSS:

ORRR beth ditto!!:

There's always courtney love, use brick-red lipstick and get a scruffy blonde wig. then a 90's summer dress and smudged black eyeliner:

you can always go completly cliche and go as amy winehouse. but you HAVE to get her tattoos right to do her justice!

the same goes for Brody Dale....

hope this helps:]

Thanks; I'm off to the fancy dress shop later to see what they have. We also have a few goth type clothing shops so I'm thinking of looking in there as well.

I always envisage rock chicks to be more along the lines of "Alice Cooper and Ozzy Osbourne" - I know they are both men but I can't think of any girls lol.

I did think of a wig and the eye make-up, so rock-queen saying that as well has made my idea seem better lol.

I don't picture the likes of Any Winehouse to be a "rocker" - hence why I am struggling so much.

I agree re: Amy Winehouse. Courtney Love would be quite a good one though.

They'd both be easy to to but their outfits just don't seem very "dressy" I don't need to look dressy, I just would like it to actually look like fancy dress...I think a lot of the "rock chick" is normal everyday clothes, and the bouncers won't be impressed at letting a group of people in dressed in "ordinary" clothes for a night out.

I had a look in the fancy dress shops last night but all they seem to do is "flower power".

You could also have a look at Hayley Williams of Paramore and Amy Lee of Evanescence - I would post links but I don't know how to with out copying and pasting!
I guess if you all walked in to the club together dressed as Rock Chicks, the bouncers would kind of see a theme going on, especially if you tell them it's a fancy dress party!
xxx :)

Can you not speak to some of your friends and see what/who they're going as?

One said a goth, I will ask another one. I did mean to ask her yesterday...I'll only know like 3 or 4 people there, since we are the "work" friends and not "normal" friends.

They both look easy to do :) however coming back to my issue is the bouncers won't let us in looking so "casual".
