I wonder if Bel Bel is considering my virgin balloon idea? :-k :P

That is cool, Ragdoll! If only I had known that I would of gone and done Geography!

In other news - the capt of the BA plane that made that famous emergency landing last year has taken voluntary redundancy..

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... z0NREOFrtY

I think the report is a little rubbish. Its quite fine for the Capt to allow the first officer to land the plane in the emergency, especially as he was already flying the plane and had the 'feel' for it.

Well I finally had my hot air balloon ride :D It was amazing! I loved it, as did my boyfriend (which is just as well considering it was his xmas prezzie!). I wasn't sure which thread to post the photos in, but this one seems as good as any since we have been talking about it here. Sorry there are so many, it's hard to choose which ones to include:

Thats wonderful ragdoll! Very nice to see and im so glad the weather turned out to be very nice too! Thats excellent.
2 balloon departures - thats good! I'm guessing they had a backlog of customers as i've never seen 2 departures before.

Dont suppose you know the registration of the balloon you went in do you? It should be something like G-VB** I want it so I can look up the year it was built + how many hours it has logged!

Great set of photos. How long was your flight?

Thanks everyone :) Might bore you all by posting some more photos at some point - we took loads! It actually made it even better that two balloons flew at the same time - especially from a photography point of view.

I have no idea re: the registration, might have captured it in some of our photos though, so I will look when I have the time! :)

The flight lasted about an hour. The views were amazing, we could see York, Leeds, Harrogate, the sea and even the Humber Bridge (just!)

Its no bore! I really enjoyed your photos and cant wait to see the rest of them.
Looks like the weather was lovely though apart from that distant bit of haze but thats nearly always there (rarely isnt) Its great when you get good visibility and can see for miles and miles! Thats what makes flying so great - seeing the world from a different perspective.

No problem, i'm sure the reg is in one of your photos! How many pics did you take?

I took a look at the weather before going to bed the other night and had a feeling you would get into the air as the forcast had quite a dramatic change on metcheck compared to what it said earlier on last week.

I guess it was worth the wait afterall. So you dont fancy getting your balloon pilot's licence? ;) :P

Thanks Captain :)

Here are a few more, you can see York Minster on one of them:

Yeh, the visibility improved as the flight progressed - it was quite hazy at first, but I think that was partly due to how early it was (we were there at 6am).

Surprisingly there isn't a photo which clearly shows our balloons reg, it looks like it's GVBFE though. The other balloon's (which went up at the same time as us) was definitely GVBFS though.

We're left with 88 photos - we took more between us (we took a camera each), but we've deleted the ones that weren't much good!

Haha don't think I fancy being a balloon pilot as much as I enjoyed my flight! I think the novelty would wear off after a while for me. Must be great for them though - getting paid to do something they no doubt love. I know our pilot had his own balloon.

They are very nice! You've done well with your aerial photography.

Yeah normally you get a slight layer of morning mist that burns off as the air temperature rises.

G-VBFE is indeed one of the virgin balloons so it was probably that one you went in. She was built in 2006 and had 153 flying hours at the end of 2007.
G-VBFS is one of the newest to the fleet having been built this year and therefore I have no details to her current logged hours.

haha The novelty never wears off - too busy and every flight is too different for that to happen. Its quite normal for pilots to own their own aircraft so im not surprised your pilot has his own balloon. :D At an airfield I flew from in Cornwall we had a Virgin B747-400 Captain who owned a Aviat Husky - one day whilst flying the B747 he called up on the radio at 35,000ft above us just to check on his plane while enroute to the USA :P

88 photos is alot, although a shame that some of them didnt turn out to your liking though. Its always nice to get photos from the air though because its not a perspective everyone gets to see.

i'm so jealous

Bel Bel stomps off in a huff - not with Ragdoll but with hubby for not taking any notice to date of this need to go in a ballon. (perhaps she will buy herself a ballon flight for her 40th      )

You know he might be planning it as a suprise.

I like the photo of the basket and the Minster...it just shows that you were in a balloon :) It's more "fun" than a normal view of it.

True but he didn't plan it for my 30th Dipsy. Which is probably a good thing in hindsight as we split up a month before
