'80s film/TV stars

Postby RagDoll » Tue Jun 23, 2009 11:28 am

Hi all,

My friend is having a summer house party and he wants everyone to come dressed as '80s film/TV stars. I was born at the end of '84, so I don't have that much of a clue about the films etc. of that particular decade. Does anyone have any ideas? I don't want to spend a lot of money and don't want to look a state either!

I did google it to see what it'd come up with and I was thinking I might go as Charlie from Topgun (I'm already blonde, have roughly the same length hair etc. etc.), but any other suggestions would be great...

I can't really help but I did a search for film stars of the 80's. The first site shows the top 10 film stars for each year of the 80's; the list I just coppied from another site.

Thanks for the info so far :) Any suggestions about specific characters from films? I'm not a huge film-fan so I'm a bit clueless really!

Hmm, do you want to look cool, or funny?

and also, do you want to be a female character?

Definitely want to be a female character. Something that I can do quite easily (so it'd be best if they had blonde hair, though it's not essential). I don't really want to look funny, would rather look cool/sexy/cute than daft lol.

Im not sure about blonde, but you could be:

Princess Leia
Baby from Dirty Dancing
Jessica Rabbit from Who Framed Roger Rabbit (Betty Boop was also in who framed Roger Rabbit)
She-Ra
Cheetara from Thundercats...

I'll think of more

I can't help ragdoll :( I'm rubbish with all things "popular" now let alone TV/film/popular things 20-30 years ago :(.

Yeh, me too, that's why I'm stuck. I just wish they could have a party without a stupid theme! Got enough stuff to worry about without trying to think of, and buy an '80s outfit lol

I know it's not the same but my friend had a "rock chick through the ages" themed hen party and I think her and her sister both went as the 80's era, I think they looked on e-bay and in charity shops for ideas. Have you considered looking in a plain fancy dress shop; I went in one and they had a big brochure that you could look through, you could also ask for help and get a few ideas from there.

I used to love dangermouse

Grease would be a good theme to go for.

Grease was filmed in the '70s and the people in it are dressed in '50s attire, so that doesn't really work.

Also, it's not just re-creating an '80s look, it's specifically film/TV characters from the '80s. My friend has just suggested Madonna's role in Desperately Seeking Susan - quite a good one!
