My (old) neighbour is petrified of birds; she is really scared of them. However when I was little she used to look after my budgie when we were on holiday. She used to let other people clean her out and then she wouldn't mind it so long as it was firmly within the cage.

It's both - I don't really like them anyway, plus I feel sorry for them being stuck in cages. I just don't see the appeal personally.

I'm not getting into an argument here; it's just a lot of people always say I feel sorry for birds in their cages; as I said before; the only time mine were "locked" in their cage was when a window was open in the room they are in OR if it was night time. People often say this about birds BUT what about a rat in a cage or a hamster? Even going as far as saying a rabbit or a guinnea pig in a hutch is the same thing (in reality).

I'm not causing an argument, just a viewpoint from a different side.

I think the difference with hamsters etc. in their cages is that they can still move around quite a bit. Birds can't properly fly around in their cages (unless they're huge) which is restricting them doing what is most natural to them.

It's different if you let them out all the time like you do though, but a lot of people don't. Don't they poo all over the place though? lol

Sorry earthchild, it was, yeh :D

I forgot that one of my exs (that I'm still friends with) has some rabbits, so I emailed him about house training them etc. He said they'll go in their litter tray/hutch 9 times out of 10, but they do sometimes go elsewhere in the house. This has put me off a little bit! (God, I am fussy!)

I have a Chinchilla and she is the bomb! She's cute, furry, non-smelly and pretty low maintenance. I just let her out and run around the kitchen at night now when I'm making dinner. I bought mine over with me as I couldn't bear leaving her with my parents. They are quite expensive to buy over here bought I bought her about 6 years ago for £50 off a breeder, although they are more from the pet stores. She's black too and should of been £100 but the gray one's are cheaper - they are around £60 - £70, plus they live for between 9 and 20 years!

I don't know really, I just don't like their squawking and flapping around lol. I'm not scared of the small ones, but I'm scared of birds of prey!
