Psychics

Post by wiseone » Thu Oct 01, 2009 2:53 pm

Dear all,

What are your opinions of psychics and clairvoyants ? I have a female friend who swears by them and approaches each of her internet dates with what these people say to her.

I personally dont rate them but my friend seems to be into them big time.

Well I always thought maybe some of them exist and the frauds make the real ones look bad
However Derren Brown did a show and prentended to be one to prove a point and he was amazing. He knew nothing about this woman and was telling her all sorts of stuff about someone who she knew that was dead and how they died etc.
Then you watch collin fry telling someone about their little habit with marmite jar lids which only one person supposedly knew about and you think how could he guess that?
I don't think you should ever live your life by what these peope say but if you take it as a bit of fun it's harmless
I suppose in answer to your question I'm still not convinced either way
On of the guys I work with was told he will die in a car crash in leicester - he won't ever go there now

I don't believe psychic ability exists in any way, shape, or form. No person has ever been able to demonstrate any of these abilities under lab conditions, i.e. conditions which exclude the possibility of cheating or misdirection. An American foundation has been offering a prize of one million dollars to anyone who can demonstrate any psychic or paranormal ability under proper observing conditions since the 1960s. No one has ever managed it.

This links in with the discussion we had on coincidence: humans as a rule don't adequately understand probability or coincidence, and their observation is very selective and subjective.

I'm sceptic.

My mam went to a friend of a friend who was "learning it at the time" and this woman said stuff to my mam that no one else would know - I'm not sure my mam believed her though. Her friend also went; the "psychic" said to her friend...You will be married twice, you will loose your first child and you will live on the end of a busy street with no neighbours. She only mentioned the 3 things; but I think if you predict the future you make things fit; for my mams friend; she has been married twice; her first child will NOT speak to her over the breakup of her marriage (he's about 35 and his parents broke up when he was maybe 30) - her other 3 kids still speak to her. She used to live in the centre of Hexham - on the end of a street; there was no other residential properties in the street; next door was an antiques shop.

One of my friends went to a psyhcic who said "I predict you'll have a child" - within a year she did - I did however say to her; just because someone said it doesn't mean you have to go out and prove it (like it seemed she was).

I also saw the Derren Brown show Bel Bel - what I like about him is that he does the tricks and has always stated that he doesn't believe he has any psychic powers and he admits they are tricks etc.
A hug is a great gift, one size fits all.
