Its an IT role, basically looking after the servers and that. Just a very amusing title.

haha :D Yeah, that is a good one.

A few years ago I got to go to a naval airbase and met a merlin pilot (he was an instructor) He took us into a briefing room, showed us around the simulator etc Anyway, he stated his job title was something along the lines of 'computer monitoring operator' and then followed it up with 'basically a pilot'

I automatically thought of Top Gun when I read Merlin.

Captain, do you have a handle like that or are you just a normal pilot? Your not a Maverick are you? :o Or a Goose! :(

Now THEY are strange job title's. "Hello, I'm a Goose"

haha Merlin is a navy helicopter. :)

I think those names are code names - rather than using real names over the RT to keep it more anonymous incase they are captured by the enemy.

haha Well, my nickname is Captain :P My friends call me that because i've wanted to be a pilot since I was 2yrs old. Although when I first started learning to fly, my instructor at the time used to call me 'Little Aviator' However none of that gets used over the RT.

Haha imagine what people would think if you told them you were a backend consultant and left them to decide what it meant :D
My dad likes to tell people that he is a 'mobile calcium transporter' (hes a milkman)
