Fox hunting and other blood sports

Postby depman » Thu Oct 23, 2003 8:21 pm

What are your thoughts on Fox hunting and other kind of hunting?
Also anything on Animal cruelty?

I love foxes and all animals and I would love to see it banned outright in this country
Hunting in my opinion is just one simple word Murder
Animals suffer greatly because of humans in general
I will be very intrested to read your views and will reply and add more of my views

I can understand a controlled cull like they do with rabbits but letting the dogs rip them to pieces?

Not good for anyone....

we don't have fox hunting over here...they have fox hunts, but it's only a rag coated with some sort of scent, and it's dragged through the country side, and then everyone goes gaily cantering away after it. So there's no cruelty involved...unless you want to count the confusion the dogs must go through when they realize there is no fox.
As for hunting...I see nothing wrong with it, as LONG as the people are actually going to use it for food. I see it as the same as going to the store nad buying a slab of steak. But hunting for the fun of it...I don't agree with.

I think its wrong to say some animals should be controled.
People are vastley over populating the planet, but we would go up in arms if it was said we should be controled, just because we're more advanced and can take action doesnt give us the right too.

I will probably be ripped to pieces for this, but I was always against fox hunting until I started working with farmers.

Foxes are a pest and destroy crops and animals on farms, these are essential items used to produce food. Farmers rely on the hunt to keep the number of foxes down, they do not wish to extinct them, just control them. Much like if we didn't eat cows, pigs etc the country would be over run by them.

If we ban hunting farmers will have no alternative but to shot them, foxes tend to run away when shot and die slow painful deaths. However during hunting foxes are killed quickly by the hounds and are definately dead when its over.

I know it seems like a cruel way to do it, but would you rather they suffer after being shot?

I am really undecide on the matter of if its a good thing or a bad thing but I can see both perspectives.

It's no excuse for the inhumane killing
The do it for fun as well and because it's linked with royalty the hippocrates in Westminster won't ban it

It is not all farmers
Lots of farmers get fed up hunters and dogs running all over their land
Also no I wouldnt prefer foxes to be just shot instead of letting them die in pain after being mauled
Who gives us the right to shoot a fox because you say its a pest
Lots of animals behave a lot better then some of us so called humans
Maybe we should unleash paedofiles to be hunted as all foxes want to do is survive like us
and they behave better
sorry kitten I disagree on what you say and I do see both sides
But at the end of the day no animal deserves to die because we say so we have no right and they dont have a say about their life and whether we should end it
The bloodsport is outdated and should be banned now
I thought this was the present now where we are starting to move on from our stupidity in the past
these are modern times not barbaric times
Sorry but I feel strongly on this subject 8)

Kitten you say that we would be overun by pigs and cows etc if we didnt eat them
well we breed them against their wishes to provide meat so if we didnt do that they wouldnt be overun
Its all to satisfy humans
By the way I hope I havent offended you
Im just an animal lover

Don't get me wrong I am an animal lover too, hence the name kitten. Yes we may breed cows against their will (if they have freewill) but surely god provided us with this knowledge so we could feed ourselves. Since we were cavemen we have hunted and eaten meat, breeding it is just a sign of evolution.

Its all part of the food chain. Animals hunt other animals to survive, we are now more civilised and perhaps there is a better alternative to hunting.

I do not personally say foxes are a pest, but they are classed as one due to their ability to breed excessively. Have you heard the recent stories of how foxes are being more urban, and hurting people - perhaps they are getting their own back for a change!! - perhaps also a sign of evolution

Don't worry I am not offended I know this is a sensitive topic and people are entitled to their opinions. As I said I am not totally convinced either way just thought I'd give another perspective.
