Share Your UNUSUAL Christmas Carols!

Postby Llisa » Sun Nov 16, 2003 12:44 am

MerryChristmas!

In leiu of the fast approaching Christmas season, I thought it'd be nice to share some of your abnormal Christmas carols. I'm NOT talking about rude and vulgar ones, so please don't post them.
We always hear "Rudolph" and "Oh Christmas Tree", but there are some really nice ones out there that get overlooked.
Here's one that I just heard about two Christmases ago and love it.

Mary Did You Know?

Mary, did you know
that your baby boy will one day walk on water?

Mary, did you know
that your baby boy will save our sons and daughters?

Did you know, that your baby boy has come to make you new?
This child that you've delivered, will soon deliver you.

Mary, did you know
that your baby boy will give sight to a blind man?

Mary, did you know
your baby boy will calm a storm with his hand?

Did you know, that your baby boy has walked where angels trod?
When you kiss your little baby, you've kissed the face of God.

The blind will see
The deaf will hear
The dead will live again.
The lame will leap
The dumb will speak
The praises of The Lamb.

Mary, did you know
that your baby boy is Lord of all creation?

Mary, did you know
that your baby boy will one day rule the nations?

Did you know, that your baby boy is heaven's perfect lamb?
This sleeping child you're holding, is the great I AM.

I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas
Words and music by John Rox

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas.
Only a hippopotamus will do.
Don't want a doll,
No dinky Tinker Toy.
I want a hippopotamus
To play with and enjoy.
I want a hippopotamus for Christmas.
I don't think Santa Claus will mind, do you?
He won't have to use
Our dirty chimney flue.
Just bring him through the front door,
That's the easy thing to do.

I can see me now on Christmas morning,
Creeping down the stairs.
Oh, what joy and what surprise
When I open up my eyes
To see a hippo hero standing there.

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas.
Only a hippopotamus will do.
No crocodiles,
No rhinoceroses.
I only like
Hippopotamuses,
And hippopotamuses like me, too.

Mom says the hippo
Would eat me up, but then
Teacher says a hippo
Is a vegeterian.

There's lots of room for him
In our two-car garage.
I'd feed him there and wash him there
And give him his massage.

I can see me now on Christmas morning,
Creeping down the stairs.
Oh, what joy and what surprise
When I open up my eyes
To see a hippo hero standing there.

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas.
Only a hippopotamus will do.
No crocodiles
Or rhinoceroseses.
I only like
Hippopotamuseses,
And hippopotamuses like me, too! *xmaswindow*
In the words of Don Mclean......
They were not listening, They're not listening still, Perhaps they never will!

Ahh they are both lovely ones. I only know ones where you used to change the words to naughty ones during the carol service at school!

Why is it that schools insist on singing the same ones every year? Ones like yours Llisa would lighten up the service i think and get the kids to enjoy it a bit more.

I think this came out last year, and i can't remember all of it, but here goes!!!

I want an alien for christmas,
I want an alien this year
I want a little green guy
about three feet high,
With 17 eyes and
knows how to fly
I want an alien for christmas this year.

Heh heh - made me laugh! Especially as i HATE christmas!!

Through the window of my eyes
I gaze beyond the rain-drenched streets
To Ireland where my heart lies."

Heh heh... I'm not christian. :) i like having the family together, but not the inevitable arguments that my brother will bring with him. I like presents, but as i've lost my job twice in a month, i can't afford to buy one for anyone else. Days off work? nah - i'd rather work - double pay :). plus i'll be snowed under with christmas work from college (oh - the fun... :-? )

I hate the idea of jesus, and pretending i enjoy the birthday of someone i don't believe in.

And most of all - i hate the food. I'd rather have christmas disappear totally.

ALTHOUGH! - the alcohol thing has it's merits!

Sorry for ranting...

Hmm i am not a big christmas fan either. Am not religious so it has no real meaning and i dont like the fact that it has been turned into huge big deal for pressies, eating and drinking too much which i think can be done any day of the week hehe. Also, everyone tends to get a) really drunk and then starts family war b) bored and fall asleep in front of TV. Either scenario tends to happen in my family making christmas a bit of a let down.

I do like the nice bits though like these carols they are lovely.

Christmas is great you lot of grinches

Taking the kids to see santa is a great christmassy thing.
The night before you have a drink and snuggle up in front of the telly with your loved ones and nick chocs off the tree hehe.
Christmas day you get up early full of excitment and open your pressies and see the happy looks on your familys faces.
Then the house fills with the smell of turkey and you pull your crackers together. you play board games and tell jokes and look forward to the january sales.

Come on people wheres the christmas spirit.
My christmas decorations are going up monday so me and my family can enjoy it for as long as possible.

Sovs i would love to have a christmas like that! Mine usually involves military operation to get baby, presents, baby equipment etc over to my mums house 20 miles away. Then pick up gran who will then complain about everything bless her (saz says through gritted teeth) from Eastenders to the dinner to the queens speech.

Was so funny the year Julian Clary was in a panto on the telly she nearly had a heart attack! We didn't hear the end of that one i tell you!

Then a burnt dinner my mum cooked is dished up followed by a lot of reminiscing stories as we all fall asleep. Then later on to my aunties house where everyone else is drunk senseless, a row or actual fight breaks out, the ladies are crying and everyone vows not to meet again next year.

This year is a big downer. My dad has announced his visiting times the week before xmas, but will be staying in one place everyone has to go to him. Then he said he might not come because evil stepson is ill. I said so what he isn't your son? I will get cheapo pair of PJ's and my sister will get top of the range mobile phone. Baby will get cheapo market style clothing in boys colours. Great.

I think i might just do that lol!

I feel worse for my bf though, he never sees his mum because she is a right scrooge - she doesn't 'do' christmas anymore because she is a miserable person. He doesn't see his dad because he lives miles away. He doesn't speak to his brother and his sister's house is mayhem at xmas. I think we are going to his sisters boxing day which means more driving 40 miles.

I do love the good bits of christmas - seeing kids faces when they get presents, the feeling of good spirits on the day and people being nice to each other for a short while hehe!
