'Rollies' vs 'straights'

Postby bobbyt » Tue Feb 03, 2004 8:59 pm

Hiya all!

Hope everyone's ok.

Just out of interest, is there as many chemicals in roll-ups as there is 'normal' cigarette. I mean as well as the usual warnings on fags, you get the xxmg of tar, xxmg of nicotine and xxmg of carbon dioxide labels. Therefore, are roll-ups safer?

Just interested in your opinions.

As far as i am aware, yes normal ciggies have more chemicals but then they are smoked through a filter. Roll ups are often not smoked through a filter, therefore you are inhaling more. In my view roll ups are much stronger and without a filter possibly more harmful.

Packaged cigarettes contain about 4000 extra chemicals, so in that regard I suppose rolling your own cigarettes would be better.

Or to make it even better for you, you can stop smoking completely. :D

rollies

Postby bobbyt » Wed Feb 11, 2004 9:41 pm

Hiya all!

Although I only smoke very occoasionally (a couple a week), I do find packaged ciggies easier, but rollies slightly cheaper. I do put filter tips in them though.

Right well I have been smoking on and off for the last four or five years now. Most of the time I smoke packaged cigarettes but sometime last year moved onto roll ups for a short period of time. They are cheaper but VERY strong they put me off. They must be more damagin than the packaged ones surely!!!

Now I'm back on the packaged stuff and loving it so much I'm hooked for life, however, they're not good for my singing voice so I'm going to have to quit sometime soon. :(

Oh well. Never mind. :)

If you only smoke a couple a week Bobbyt then sorry but what is the point? I try smoking only a couple but after a while it gradually creeps up again because your cravings sort of take over. Even those couple a week are still damaging you dont be fooled that just because you dont smoke much they dont affect you.

I am saying this from a smokers point of view who is battling to give up. Trying to find the least damaging ciggie is a waste of time because they are all damaging and all addictive!

That is very true, saz. No matter what the cigarette and how often you actually smoke, it's still damaging.

Yes maybe some less than others, but they are still damaging in their own way. My dad gave up smoking ciggies about 15 years ago, but now smokes cigars! He seems to think that this isn't smoking just because you dont always inhale and they aren't ciggies, but of course it is! OK they might be less damaging than normal ciggies, but still damaging.

It is like with 'light' brands of ciggies - they are going to or have banned the use of the term on the box, because there isn't much difference in strength or content, and it can fool people into thinking they are safer, when they are not.

Smoking "Roll your own" as opposed to normal cigarettes is the equivalent of jumping off a 50 storey building as opposed to a 30 storey one. It will take longer to kill you but it will eventually kill you at some point.

rollies

Postby bobbyt » Fri Feb 20, 2004 6:52 pm

One thing about rollies is that they always go out so often.

Why is this? If I have a rollie I usually use Golden Virginia (with green rizla's and a filter) made in a rolling machine?

It's very frustrating!

Cheers,

Same, golden virginia is quality stuff! But anyway i think its because it doesnt have the chemicals which also burn more and keep a normal cigareete alight. I think.
