kk

I was on a trip with cadets and one of our instuctors is this really cool guy called Gus and he was in the Paras etc etc and he does kung fu and other martial arts and he was telling me all about chi and how he has taken years for it to get to where it is the now. He explained to me that the best way to think of chi is as a sort of electricity within and if you use chi in fights its like shooting them with bolts of lightening.Anyway we went canoeing that day and he was telling me more about it and the 1" punch etc and he demostrated it on me. and because it was only 1" away and i was wearing a life jacket and thick water proofclothes i thought it wouldnt hurt but when he done it he knocked the breath from me it was totally amazing but sore.

Luvva, would your school do any self defence classes? We did three or four self defence classes in place of PE at school so that lasted for about a month. We learnt about different ways to injure people of they were attacking you.

For instance, if someone is trying to pull you away e.g. into a car or something, then the best thing you can do is to push forward, push your hand up and against their nose to break their nose and run. We were taught that and had tp practise it several times. Apparently the worst thing you can do is pull away from the person as they would most likely be stronger than you. They wouldn't expect you to push the same way that they would be pulling!

It might be worth mentioning it to the PE department of your school and see if they can supply you with a few lessons.
When you reach for the stars, you may not quite get them, but you won't come up with a handful of mud either.

You are never too old to start a martial art. For self defence i would recommend Karate because it is purely a self defence martial art. You dont have to become a master at it, but the more you do and the higher you get the more you learn....obvioulsy!
As for so called chi....that does not exist in karate! Most of it does not need loads of power, and works on you using the attackers power. No matter how big or small you are you can learn to stop any one of any shape or size. If your quick that is a real bouns. It is very respectful and displiced. If any one wants amy imfomation i would be happy to answer questions.

Yea, that's a good idea Smile, I'll try and mention it when I can. I'm not too sure how many people would be interested though!

It was big hit at our school. Unfortunately the instructor picked me to demonstate one of the moves. BIG mistake!
