PC help! Error repports stopping me from accessing hotmail

Postby all_apologies » Sun Dec 26, 2004 1:13 pm

Hey, back for a quick technical question (you know what I'm like!)

Everytime I have tried to access hotmail in the past 2 days, that microsoft error report window pops up. Whether I choose to send the report or not, the hotmail window is closed. Thus, I can't access my emails. It's happening with some other sites too.

I've run scandisk, and it found no errors. I've tried defragmenting the drive (not that I know what this does), but it won't continue because it says there are errors that need to be fixed. I've run ad-aware and removed what it's found. I know there's loads of other rubbish on my PC and errors that need to be fixed, but I don't know where to find a suitable program.

Please help me it's driving me nuts! Thanks all :D

ok this is a bit of a cheat, but when you get the microsoft error report window pop up, just move it out of sight, like below the toolbar or something and carry on with what you are doing. hey presto no more problems!! :P

Update your browser to the latest version, with security patches and so forth.

Is it any particular area of Hotmail? For example, is it when you're composing a message, organising your address book, administering your safe list?

Download an alternative brower. Mozilla Firefox is very popular.

Thanks a lot so far people. RQ - it doesn't allow me to move it out of sight (tried that one already goddam!)
It occurs just before my inbox loads. Or, if I'm accessing through messenger, i'll click on the bit that says 'you have ... new email messages'. A new window opens, attempts to load but then the message pops up.

I'm trying the update now, thanks for all the help, I'll get back if I'm still stuck.

You can't "uninstall" Hotmail as that is a website.

What's the state of things all_apologies?

What you can do is use outlook/outlook express to collect your emails from hotmail rather than have to go to the website to access them.

all you have to do is go to the "Tools" pull down menu and select email accounts or accounts and then add new account, enter your hotmail email address in full and it will configure access for it, your hotmail address will be your username and just enter your password. It should then be included when you press the send/receive button.

You mentioned that you had other problems with your PC, i would suggest formatting the computer and make sure you have a good anti-virus as scandisc won't find the errors that the anti-virus would.

defragging the system is always a good idea, it will help the computer to run faster by sorting all the data held on it into an order the computer can access easier.

Hope this helps and it's not been too technical.

I noticed that they tried to do that a few months back but it didn't really work, it would serve as a quick fix for now though.
