Depman locked the topic that Mic started, but I too can only see red crosses, and can't see where there are new posts. No smileys... only a few avatars....

Nothing like that is happening here.

There are lots of things it could be - try to make a note of when it happens, what exactly happens, whether or not it happens on other websites too, what you were doing just before it happened etc.

I used to have an infrequent problem with Internet Explorer at work, occasionaly it would stop displaying images for no apparent reason, the only thing that sorted it out was restarting the computer. I never worked out what made it happen. I just used another browser instead.

Like Captain_flynn says, clearing out your cookies may help, also try clearing out the browsers temporary internet files. It could be that your browser is loading old pages from your browsers cache - those pages will be requesting images at the old site, but the images won't be there. To test this theory do the following:

1. Right click on one of the red crosses and click 'Properties'.
2. Look at the link to the image...
3. If it has something like http://www.problempages.co.uk/forum/images/image.gif, then it should work, however...
4. If it says http://www.problempages.co.uk/phpBB2/images/image.gif - then it is an old cache of the page that is being loaded from your browsers history - not the actual web site - so you'll need to force the browser to refresh the page properly by clearing out your cache or by updating your settings to fetch an updated version of the page on each visit.

That was the link in Properties. Does that mean it was option 2 of Jo's suggestions?

Moose, the image you posted is not in the forum folder so its not either of my options, in theory it wouldn't have been affected, however, if it did look to be missing then my original theory was wrong. Was that image a red cross or was it showing up?

When the images are missing in the forums are they also missing from the main site? Also, can you see some avatars and not others, or are they ALL missing? If you can see some avatars and not others, which ones can you see and which ones can't you see? Is the ProblemPages logo missing from the top of the page? Are the buttons missing?

I need very detailed information if I'm to work out what is happening. It could be happening to everyone at certain times of day, OR it could be happening to everyone on a certain ISP, OR it could be happening to everyone using one of many ISP's that use a certain proxy, OR it could be happening to everyone with a certain combination of software on their computer, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.

Next time it happens please do the following...
1. first check a few other web sites and make sure its only ProblemPages - if its not only ProblemPages then its either a browser issue OR possibly an issue with your ISP, particularly if it uses a proxy (it could still be this even if it is only ProblemPages).
2. If it IS only ProblemPages, check the main site and see if the images there look to be missing too.
3. Record the time and date.
4. Record the address of some of the images that are missing.
5. Record the address of some of those that aren't missing (if any).
6. Let me know which ISP you use to connect to the Internet.

It could be a certain broadband provider. I'm on Virgin broadband but it hasn't happened to me. Who is your mum online with?

Well I'm getting the same thing so here goes...

1. Problempages is the only site that has the problem with the images for me.
2. Images on the main site aren't working for me either.
3.Time and date as of this post.
4.
http://www.problempages.co.uk/forum/templates/subSilver/images/logo_phpBB.gif

http://www.problempages.co.uk/forum/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

5. All images are missing for me.
6. I use Blueyonder broadband to connect to the net.

Hope that's of some help... (I would put a smiley here but I'd just end up with an 'x' hehe)

Empty your cache of temporary internet files and so forth...

It is still happening on my home computer, but not on my work computer.

1. Problem Pages is the only site with which I am having problems.
2. I can see some Avatars, but not others, e.g. I can see Smile's and Enigma's, but not Jo's.
3. It's 24th December at 12.56pm
4. Missing addresses: - forum/templates/subSilver/images/folder_new_big.gif
forum/templates/subSilver/images/lang_english/icon_pm.gif
forum/templates/subSilver/images/rank_8_2peach.gif
images/me_ppages.jpg
5. Not missing addresses: -

http://www.geocities.com/gillianhughman/queens_view.JPG
http://www.imgholder.com/uploads/2004/1 ... GLSL6R.jpg
http://www.vh1.co.uk/vh1.co.uk/img/show ... _117/3.jpg
6. I'm with BT Yahoo

And I have cleared my cookies.

Thanks

I know you are all probably bored of my red cross problem, but it is still going on. I said earlier that I have cleared my cookies - well, I think I have - unfortunately I am not much of an expert on this sort of thing - can someone please talk me through how to clear them/delete temporary internet files etc so I'll know whether I've done it or not?

Thanks in anticipation!

Assuming you're using Internet Explorer:

Go to... Tools > Internet Options

You will see a dialogue box that is split into different categories, one of them should be 'Temporary Internet Files'. You should see the following buttons: 'Delete Cookies', 'Delete Files' and 'Settings' - just use those buttons to delete cookies and temporary internet files.

If you click on 'Settings' it will show you the settings for how often Internet Explorer will check for updated versions of a web page.

Thanks for that - unfortunately it hasn't made any difference. I know it's my computer, as my work computer shows everything absolutely fine.
