the pill concern

Postby crazy-amy » Tue Mar 03, 2009 7:12 pm

i have been taking the birth controll pill for 21 days now and i am supposed to come off it today for 7 days and i am also supposed to get my period which hasn't came.
ive been having unprotected sex with my partner throughout, after 7 days of taking it.
we had sex today because my period has not came yet.
should i be worried? or take the morning after pill? does the pill still have effect in these 7 days?

help would be appriciated, thankyou.

You're still protected through the 7-day break. But you must start taking your pill again exactly when you were due to take it (after the 7 days are up) regardless of your period coming or not. So no, I can't see why you would need the morning after pill.

Your period comes as a result of stopping taking the pill, so you won't get any bleeding until you are at least a couple of days into the 7-day break time. The bleed you get with the pill isn't a real period, it's the result of the hormones in the pill leaving your body as you stop it for the 7 days. Hope that made sense.

MY PERIOD COMES ON THE 5TH OR 6TH DAY OF THE BREAK AND DOESN'T STOP TIL TWO DAYS AFTER STARTING THE PILL AGAIN. on caps again
Over time the pattern may change too
As you have only just gone on the pill i wouldn't worry that you have no period but if it happens again next month i would go tell the doctor

Yea mine starts 3 days after finishing the pack and stops before I take the new month. It just depends on how your body reacts to it.

I agree with Bel Bel - leave it this month and see and if next month you have nothing go and ask at least.

i didnt know this, always thought that the pill only protects you for 24 hours so ive always used protection during the break.

Oh no, there wouldn't be much use in a contraceptive that left you unprotected 25% of the time - it would have a massive failure rate. Pills do vary though, so check the instructions, which will be be in the pack somewhere.
