Very quick pill question

Postby sarahmienwok » Thu May 28, 2009 9:10 am

Morning all.

I have a quick pill question. Because I live away, my mum sends me my pill every month - it's Microgynon 30. Well, this recent batch wasn't packaged very well, and one of them is a little crushed, and it looks like theres loads of white powder inside the bubble, which hasn't been pierced thankfully.

Do you think it'll be okay if I just make sure I ingest everything, pill crumbs, powder etc? I have to take it next Wed.

Ta for any help on this one xx

This is what the FDA said about a chewable brand of contraceptive pill, but I'd assume the principle is the same...

If the pill is chewed and then swallowed, the woman should drink a full glass (8 ounces) of liquid immediately afterwards so that the full dose of medication reaches the stomach and no residue is left in the mouth

Why not just throw away that one pill? Your cycle will be one day shorter this month, but it shouldn't do any harm.

Can you do that? Isn't that like missing a pill and so have to be extra careful for 7 days? Do you mean just not take a pill at all on Wed, or take Thurday's pill on Wed, Friday's on Thurs and so on? There's only 2 left after the broken one anyway!

Thats what I would have said.

You just take one on Wednesday like you would normally. It'll just mean you'll finish on a Monday instead of the Tuesday. Then you'll just have to start taking them on a Tuesday from now on instead of a Wednesday.

Yes, sorry, I didn't explain myself very clearly  Dipsy has said what I meant. It's been a while since I took the Pill now, but I'm pretty certain that's what the instructions advised you to do if you lost/dropped a pill - take the next one instead, and have a cycle that's a day shorter.

Haha, thanks guys! Yeah I don't have the instructions on me, my mum just sends the pill and prescription and throws the instructions and boxes away. She's getting a new box from the docs soon, so I'll ask her to send the leaflet from that, just in case.
