hairdressers advice neeeded!!! my hair wont grow :'(

Postby Aliceinwonderlandx » Wed Dec 29, 2010 1:05 am

Well.. i have decided as a new fresh hair style for going to uni i am shaving the side of my head :)

However i think for anyone to actually benefit and suit this, your hair must be already either really short or long,....

the opposite of mine. About 2 years ago i had gorgeous long hair, it was bleached a helll of a lot but always kept its length until one day i stupidly went through with a student cutting it for the benefit of a cheap quick trim.. 3/4 inches later and 2 years on it has never grown since :(
ive dyed the bleach out and gone as far to my natural golden hair shade as i can and havn't dyed my hair in about 8 months, still nothing, i am soooo desperate for the long thick curly hair i once hated..
if anyone knows of any methods, remedies or hair growing pill/lotions that they know actually work please post away. every time ive asked a hairdresser ive been answered with pushy attempts to buy their products that work "miracles" on hair, but they all seem to be saying the same thing :/

an honest hairdressers or knowledgable person's on the subject answer would go down a treat :)

much appreciated Alice xxx

Unfortunatly the only 'miracle' for getting your hair to grow is to get extencions put in. Having your hair cut regular also makes it in better condition too. Some peoples hair just doesn't grow long. You'll see someone with hair down their back who's won't stop growing and then yours who's is short and now won't go long. When you were younger it may have been long but as our hormones change when we get older our hair growth cycle may also.

I believe the bit of hair your looking at shaving will grow back to as long as your hair is now if you ever wanted to grow it back out x

As Chosen says, there is no way to grow your hair as such. No over-the-counter pill or potion will have any effect, so don't spend money on these. However, you do need to have a healthy diet to grow hair, with decent levels of things like protein, iron, B vitamins etc.

If your hair was heavily bleached then dyed over that, it's probably not in good condition, and it may be that it's breaking off when it gets to a certain length and this is why it doesn't appear to grow. Most people are capable of very long hair growth, it's just that the older the hair strands get, the more prone they are to damage, so they never reach the maximum potential length. So, a good diet and don't treat your hair with chemicals, and it will grow.

Hi There!
This may or may not be relevant, but for the past 2 years, Ive been battling hair loss, and as a female, this is hard to cope with. But, I went to numerous specialists, and finally they gave me an answer. Allopecia Arearta. Its hair loss caused by stress, or low immune system. They prescribed a steroid cream called Dermovate cream. It worked wonders and now I have no bolding anymore! I could reccomend trying to get some, its not a total cure but it does encourage new heair to grow. Hope this is helpful in some way.

Probably not a good idea to use steroid creams without a prescription (I don't think you can get them without a prescription anyway, but not sure). Also, steroids would only make a difference if Alice had the same condition, and there's no sign that she does - that kind of alopecia is characterised by bald patches rather than hair that does not grow long.

Hi Snail. Your right about the prescription which I why I suggest seeing a specialist. They will take samples of your hair and test them for things that may be causing your hair not to grow. Also, although alapecia is mainly in patches, it can cause the hair to stop growing altogether. Its not common but does happen. Alices hair may just not be growing because of the excessi\/e bleaching she tells us about. Hope you find out whats the matter with it Alice :) Good Luck!
