Ouch!

This is a bizarre one (to me anyway) as most of my aliments usually concern my hip, but I have a problem with my big toe.
It's not anything to do with the nail, it's the main "bulk" of the toe. It's really tender, and actually creaks when I move it (I can hear it!).

My boyfriend's mum is a nurse and she had a wee look and thinks I might have arthritis in my toe.
I have a doctor's appointment in the week, but does anyone else have any thoughts?

Sounds like Osteoarthiritis to me
Usually starts in the thumb or big toes and there isn't much they will do unless it gets very painful or moves to other areas.
Worth getting checked out though just in case it's something else, gout springs to mind but it could be a few other things.

I've just Googled gout (typing that made me laugh!)

Sounds like it could be that. I'll see what the doctor says.

Knackered hip AND gout?! #-o

LOL! :D :D

I will do.

I'm obviously cracking up...I've just been to a blood donation and I was told I can't donate for a year as my iron level was really low. :o

Boo! :(

OK...so this is what my doctor has said when I said him this evening.

He wants to send me for an X Ray on my tow which I think it silly as I haven't injured it. After my operation, I haven't been taking any exercise!
But he will also test for gout and arthritis.

He also said that my bloods show I'm anaemic so that's why I could not give blood.

Ah well...could be worse!

Other stuff might show up in an X-ray other than broken bones... I don't know what exactly I know we all had to have chest X-rays when my brother had TB.

There is a small chance you could have injured it without realising though. My Mum broke her arm when she was a kid by getting it tangled up in her bedcovers and then pulling it funny!

That's true, you never know. We'll see what the X Ray says. I'm more concerned about the anaemia at the moment. I'm not sure what's happened there s I've never had a problem with my blood before. :(

If you broke your big toe I am pretty sure you wouldn't be able to walk.
They may be looking for calcification (excess bone growth) or fluids on the x ray
Either way sounds like he is taking it seriously
Report back when you know what it is
:D

It's tomorrow, I'm going in after work.

Although it's stopped hurting now, which is typical, but I'm still going anyway just so things are cleared up.
Then it's more blood tests.

Ah, the glamour. :D
