Sunbeds a bad idea?

I was just wondering if getting a few sunbed sessions before going away on a sun holiday is bad for you? I am very skin cancer aware but some people say it isn't as bad as a lot of people say?

I used to do this to get a bass before holiday simply so I didn't burn. Burning will cause more damage.
As with anything moderation is the key.
If your skin is fair only do 3-6 minutes
If you are quite dark you can do 6-9 minutes
Anything beyond that is really not moderation.
If you do it once a week for the 4 weeks before you go it should give you a decent bass and a healthy glow

I don't think stand ups are bad but lay down beds are claustrophobic imo
They are bad for you if you abuse them like most things, alcohol is a good example
