Does anybody on PP suffer with epilepsy? Can somebody please let me know what they experience before a epilectic seizure.
What are your symptoms leading up to a seizure?
Last Saturday I had a seizure for the first time in my life I am now 50 years old.
I can remember everything up until passing out and I can remember everything after the seizure.
Do I have epilepsy or was it just a one off seizure?

The only people I know with epilepsy had it from an early age, including my brother, who had it from his teens. My brother was unusual, in that he used to taste gummi bears before a seizure! :-k Medication eventually proved very effective, and cut down the number of seizures.

Do you have any idea what happened before you blacked out? Any major stress? High blood pressure? Anything unusual at all? Was anybody with you, who could describe what your seizure was like?

If it’s any comfort, epilepsy starting later in life is more likely in people over the age of 65, and a single seizure is not usually classed as epilepsy.

But if you haven’t already, I’m sure you know you need to see your doctor and tell him what happened. If he rules out any other cause (there may be something in your medical history which points to another cause), he might refer you to a specialist for investigation, and he can discuss whether or not you should be driving in the meantime.

Please see the doc before you get bogged down with lists of symptoms, causes, treatments etc. and scare yourself unnecessarily! When we have some idea of what the problem is, then we can go through some more detail – even if you are eventually diagnosed with epilepsy, these days it’s not as scary as people think. Don't worry too much.
