Paid a salary even though he's left his job

My neighbour left his job voluntarily two months ago due to his new working arrangements becoming untenable. As he left voluntarily, he has been unable to claim any benefits. Apart from that, he has a huge overdraft, lots of debt and no job to go to. His ex employer has mistakenly paid him two months salary. As he is in so much debt, the black hole in his bank account has swallowed up the overpayment and he cant get his hands on it to pay it back. He is practically having a breakdown over this, as he has no income and his ex employees are threatening him with legal action. He has offered to pay £50 per month which his brother has offered to help him with. What can he do? ](*,)

To be honest the company will be threatening legal action but you can't get blood out of a stone, it is their error and they certainly will bot spend more money taking legal action than it will cost to lose the wages. They are putting the frighteners on that's all.
Tell your neighbour to contact a reputable debt agency like MA so he can start sorting this out sooner rather than later.
It will be a massive weight off his shoulders and the interest will stop adding on to the debt. He will get put on a sensible payment plan that he can afford.
Can he do any job even if it's not something he would like such as working in a supermarket stacking shelves? Any money coming in is better than none at all.

I agree with BelBel

There's also some general information on there about the agreements an employer must come to with ex employees.

Yes - he's applied for absolutely everything - so is willing to take any job he can. His family have offered to pay £50 a month back until he is back in work. Ill keep you posted on the outcome. Thank you for taking the time to reply - much appreciate.
