A new Job

Postby /X\kinglee/X\ » Sat Apr 18, 2009 3:53 pm

Hi All my 1st post

Ok I work for a storage comperny and just before mothers day the chair man died.
This was sad news for all at the comperny as it was him and his dad who belt up the whole empire so to speech then on mothers day I got in to work as normal. Went on to Google talk (it was installed by the I.T man to save money on phone Calls” and found my college was not in work, I called 3 times and no answer. I decided to call her on her mob and she told me that EVEYONE had Sunday of as a mark of respect, well evey one but me. What made it worse is that she was told not to tell me by evey one.

The next week I was a bit cold to my mangier whom I have a good working relationship with and decided to confront him and I was surprised to find out the he was as in the dark as me. He advised me that I should speak to the MD who just told me to “grow up” I was not expecting this as I thought the MD word taking it seriously but he did not. I then spoke to my manager who told me he will arrange for me to have the 5 hours back for the Sunday and then I asked him what option I had.

He told me that it well is foolish of me to try and take it to human resources as they will have a conflict of interest and I will not win, or I can find a new job.
So I decided to look for a job and use the comperny time and money to do it

I was surprised that I got a response in lest than two weeks as before it took 8 mounts and over 2000 letter and C.V. I went for the interview and was in there for an hour and he did not have to ask a lot as it’s the same job I do now but ill be on 70% more money and there is a lot of opportunity to move up in the comperny.

Im not nerves as I think I did good in the interview and I know the job inside out and I think with this new job my life will be 200x better and I want it ssoooooooo much

Do you think I did the right thing?

To be honest,"/X\kinglee/X\" from what I've quoted above,I find from reading it,you're far too sure that you've got the job. :(

In this present time of unemployment (& recession) it's much better to wait & see what will happen.

In my view you did absoultely the right thing yes! There is no point in spending time doing a job that you are unhappy in or with and when an oppertunity comes along to move on to something bigger and better then of course you have to take it! Just be certain you are going to get the new job before you resign from your current one, as with the job marken the way it is at the moment you might quit this job and then be out of work for a while as there are not too many out there at the moment.

It sounds like you did do the right thing and I can't believe your company did that! That is so unprofessional!

I hope you do get the job it sounds like a fantastic opportunity, let us know how you get on. Even if you don't get it, like morris mouse said, these are difficult times so don't get too disheartened, keep trying and good luck!

Yes don't let this get you down keep trying, it's a good attitude to have
Also you work more hours than you do anything else in life, apart from sleep so you need to enjoy work if you can

Ok for a totally blonde moment and so everyone can have a laugh at my expense...when I originally read that I thought you meant the chair man had died and not the chairman had died. I assumed the chair man was some man who specialised in the storage or chairs or something...then I read further into your post and realised that is not what you meant and in fact meant chairman.

Well in my defence I did read what was written chair man not chairman.

I'm good at things like that - there was a thing on teletext a while ago something like "Nissan are plowing £3million into green cars" ...I bet you can see where this is going...

I actually asked my dad why green cars and why not red ones or blue ones, until he said "environmental green cars"

However there was a similar title on teletext recently and I was so proud I realised it was environmental cars.

I know you didn't mean it in a bad way. It amuses me (I was even laughing when typing in the car thing).

I take things too literally (according to my dad).

ok well dipsy i took the green cars thing to another level. never mind green as in environmentally friendly, when i read ploughing £3million, i pictured shovels of cash being ploughed into green cars.

so you're not the only one
