i posted on another thread about my new job, it was initially supposed to be a year long maternity cover at £x a year, that's how it was advertised. So i went for the interview, and i got the job and i was thrilled - as i said in my other post it's not my dream job but i'm so relieved to be working! Well when the lady phoned to offer me the job, she said the post was initially supposed to be 12 months but they'd decided to make it a 9 month contract with a view to being extended depending on what the person going on maternity leave wants to do. so i thought fair enough, that's usually how these things work. Then she said the salary they were offering me was £2000 less than advertised. O...K... i was a bit peed off cos i thought they were taking advantage of the fact that i'm out of work but whatever, i accepted.
Today I got an email saying that the contract will be 6 months with a view to being extended to 9 then possibly 12.... and that the salary is a further £3000 less than the previous offer!!! i feel like a bit of an idiot as perhaps i should have resisted more when they offered me the job but i was just so happy to get the job in the first place that i just agreed to whatever she said. now i think they're REALLY taking advantage!!! thing is i'm not really in the position to turn it down and they know that!
has anyone any advice re this?
don't get me wrong i'm grateful to be working but can't help but feel a bit deflated that this big multinational company is taking advantage of me like this! in the email there didn't seem to be room for negociation...?
