Pia-No!

Postby HappyGoLucky » Wed Oct 17, 2007 10:59 am

Hi all.

I'm Grade 5 in piano now and I'm preparing for my piano exam which I'm taking somewhere next year.
I'm learning 6 piano exam pieces and it's really too much for me to practise, especially as I have my final exams 2 weeks later.

I have wondered many times if I should quit, but that would be wasting all my time + money that have gotten me this far. I've thought of taking a break (maybe for a month) from piano lessons and maybe practising alone till then - so that I'd be more prepared and have less problems with my exam pieces.

I'm just wondering if I'm doing the right thing to take a break, but I'm afraid my mother won't allow me to. I just don't have the mood to play the piano anymore. I don't like going to piano lessons now every Friday and I'm starting to think of it more like a task.

How can I explain to my mother that I want to take a break? She will probably say that I should be able to cope with my studies, piano and all and may not allow me to take a break!

Help Please!

Just be aware that this topic is 6 months old and will probably have been resolved by now. :P

Pwif, could you or one of the mods delete this? Don't think it really matters now, lol. Thanks!

HGL,

If it's ok with you, I'll just lock this topic so no-one can add to it. I think the info in your original post is still useful to other PPers, even though you've sorted things out for yourself.

I used to be pushed through piano exam after exam, and never got the chance to actually enjoy playing. I wish that I'd been allowed to have some fun when I was younger, because I rarely play the piano now.

So make sure you spend some time playing pieces which are just fun. :P
