It's perfectly normal, in my opinion. Plenty of boys/men like computer games. It gives them something to do with their hands and its something interesting to concentrate on and to put all of your concentration towards. Don't worry about it.

He will get a social life. Once he realizes how attractive girls are and how fun it is to be hanging out with his mates, he'll be out of the house and you'll hardly ever see him!

Have you ever thought of playing games with him? He might enjoy it. You might enjoy it. It'd be like a bonding thing and it would get your mind off how much he is annoying you.

Take care and I hope all goes well

Your probably right, but it's all he does! It's the Summer Holidays for the schools now, and he hasn't stepped out of the house once.
I think it may be that he's scared of some people that live round here..we get a lot of trouble, and because my brother is shy, he's an easy target.

I can't sit there and play on the playstation, I hate computer games! Just that Bing Bonging noise...ugh! lol xx

Yes it's sad
Does he have any friends?
Is there any clubs he can go to (aside from computer-related ones)
He really should buckle down and get a life
I know i'm using a computer just now but i use it for an hour or less at night

Using a computer constantly is depriving people of real social interaction. How can children learn about life and socalising if they sit on a computer all day and night? Parents are responsible for monitoring the time their children spend on a computer and should encourage them to spend their time doing other things.

I use my computer for about an hour a day sometimes more and i think that it is all about getting a healthy balance. Computers have lots of good points too and i love using it. I just also love spending time with my friends and family, going out and doing other things. I will not let my children use a computer for an unreasonable amount of time and will not be letting them have one in their bedroom. I dont think that is unfair. What did everyone do before we had home computers?

I'm not being funny, but my parents dont like how long he sits on the computer either - they have tried their hardest to get him off the computer, but whatever they say goes through one ear and out the other.

It's his choice at the end of the day, as someone said before, at least he's not one of these kids who hangs around on street corners causing trouble.

I dont like what he's doing, i'd much rather he went out with his mates, but theres not alot I can do about that.

Oh smiler i didnt mean it to come across that your parents dont care or are bad parents at all sorry. It was general really and i was thinking more about what we used to do before we had home computers. When i was growing up we didn't even have a car and only one TV. We never had any computer games, or even stereos in our bedroom.

I spose i did hang around in parks and streets and i did used to get into trouble sometimes but kids seem to do that nowadays whether they use computers a lot or not. It is just that hanging around with your mates is all part of growing up and learning about life and to miss out on a little bit of that would be a shame for anyone - not necessarily street corners but youth clubs and going round mates houses. You are right though to say that at least he is safe doing what he is doing but maybe you could find a common interest to share with him doing something else.

Yep I've tried that loads of times, asked if he wants to go for a walk, go skating anything really! Nothing ever works, all he wants to do is play he computer.

I worry alot about him, he should be a normal teenager, going out with mates, getting a few girlfriends, you know? The usual teenage stuff.

And dont worry about your previous post, my fault, I read it wrong.

But what's a "normal teenager" eh?

Maybe it's not such a bad thing that he's not going out doing stuff he shouldn't, y'know what I mean?

I agree Enigma. He could be in a lot of bad things...but then again, he could be doing a lot more profitable things with his time. I see where Smiler is coming from and I admire her concern for her brother. Unfortunately, there probably isn't a whole lot she can do...younger brothers especially have a certain defiance for their older sister...In all likelyhood, it's just a phase he is going through, and eventually he'll get bored and wander outside for some fresh air. Haha, we all say this as WE sit at OUR computers...typing away...
HE has all the answers

The wait for that perfect someone may be long and painful, but the payoff lasts even longer, and is the most painless thing in the world.

Yeah chatting over the internet is a type of socialising but meeting and talking to people face to face is the best way of communication. People find that they can be a different person on a computer, no one knows them or can see them. Pretending to be someone youre not can be fun for a while but isn't for me.

Using computers as a sort of hobby, or pleasure regularly is ok i think. It just shouldn't be your prime source of interaction with others.

I think your brother will get bored of it Smiler and find something else to do at some point! Especially when he is out eyeing up the women that will get him out and about!

yeah but that is only one way of communicating and if you read what i wrote, in my opinion it shouldn't be the only way people communicate. Some people tend to pretend to be something theyre not over the internet, so are not communicating properly are they?
