Spam posts

Post by ILoveChristmas » Thu Jan 08, 2009 8:59 am

Has anyone noticed an increase, particularly in the last few days, of spam posts?

One example would be "cdef305" who registered this morning at 8:41 and has posted three times about complete rubbish, e.g. computer war gaming in a post about the morning after pill.

Hi ILC,

Thanks for this post. The mods have a very good system of deleting spam posts before anyone gets to see them. The odd one slips through, but we still manage to nab them very quickly.

If you do see anything dodgy, please PM a mod. We're very grateful for the help we get from you all. :P

With the new bells and whistles on this site, you can also click on the little exclamation mark next to the "quote", report the spam post. You'll be asked to give a reason you're reporting it, then the post turns red. Next time a mod comes prancing in, they should see it and give the spammer a slap.

Thanks to snail for alerting me to this - we're all finding out different things about the new website - one of these days we'll actually know what we're doing! :D

Until the mods know what they're doing with the new site, you can do whatever you want, and we'll never know.

Thanks Ruth; very grateful for your help. :D We normally pick up these spam posts very quickly, zap them, and ban the user. Such sad losers.

Oy Peecee, I deleted most of them.

Cheers both of you - appreciate your feedback. Just deleted all the spammer's posts and given him/her/it a severe boot up the butt. Hope it's painful.
