Council Tax

morning all !

not sure if this is the right section to post this but i was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction, ive recently moved into my first flat :D ok so its rented but im so happy ive got my own little space, my query is- how do i apply for council tax?
i have no clue and for some reason neither my family, friends or people i work with can remember how they came to arrange paying for theirs!

I live in nottingham, so I just googled "nottingham council tax" and it came up with lots of information! lol!

thanks for your reply, i did look up the council site for the area i live in but i still cant find out where you apply, ive also literally typed in 'how to apply for council tax' in google and still nothing :( the only info that comes up is how to apply for benefits.....

If the last person informed the council they were moving out, the council should send you (the new resident) something to fill in I think.

Anyway, just contact your local council using the telephone or email details on the website and say you want to notify them that you are living at that address, for council tax purposes. They'll sort it for you.

From now on every year they will send you a form asking who lives at the house, so each year you updtae it with the correct information. This information is also used to send you your right to vote form.
I agree with snail just contact the council and make sure if you here nothing you chase.
Start saving the money now as you will have to pay from the month you moved in so don't get behind

i was told we dont have to pay council tax for march and april, is this true?

well you pay a yearly amount over 10 months it usually starts in April and you get Feb and March off but as you have just moved in they may give you 11 payments starting in May or 9 higher payments starting in May
either way it will add up to the same amount overall

a little tip if your living there on your own or you or your partner are in full time education you get a discount on your council tax

Yeah if your living alone you get single person discount.Just find out where your local council office is and go there or phone up,the new bills have just came out so you will probably have to start paying on may 1st.Mine is £101 a month so get saving! :)
