Help please - being had a go at by a friend

Postby whoopsie » Fri Aug 06, 2010 10:47 am

I stopped smoking 2 years ago. My boyfriend stupidly bought some cigarettes yesterday and we both had a couple. I have no intention of starting again - easier said than done I know, but seriously, I hate smoking and recent events reinforced my views.

I told a friend this morning - she's my chief bridesmaid. We've got a whole day out planned tomorrow, dress fitting, fake tan and dinner.

She has just emailed me saying

If you guys are gonna start smoking again, that’s up to you but please don’t do it around me. I think it’s disgusting & I don’t wanna smell like sh**.

Now assuming you still want me to come along, what time tomorrow?

I'm a bit put out by that to be honest. I feel like she's having a go at me. I want to reply. Here's my draft

To be honest, I think that was a bit uncalled for. You seem to be having a go at me. I never said we'd started smoking again, and if we had, then I would respect your wishes and not smoke around you.

I'm not entirely sure how that was meant because it's hard to tell the tone over email.

The first few emails after I told her I thought were a bit bantery, but then she comes back with that. I'm annoyed. What do you guys think?

She is obviosuly very opinionated about smoking I wouldn't let it get out of hand or before you know it you won't have a bridesmaid

I would tend to respond "yes you're right it is digusting and yesterday reinforced that for me so don't worry I won't be smoking anymore"

as you say you can't tell her tone in email and I think you will just get into a nasty ping pong e mail situation if you reply in the way you have suggested

You always give such good advise Bel Bel.

I replied the way you suggested, but I'm still annoyed at her. :x
