How do you make friends?

Postby leedslad1981 » Tue Apr 24, 2012 11:39 am

This may seem like an absolutely ridiculous question, but I struggle so much to do it!

I am not a particularly shy person and I am able to hold a conversation with people, but I can't seem to make friends!

I am new to the city I live in; well I say new, I've been here just over 2 years now, but basically, I don't really have anybody in the area that I could just call up and say 'do you fancy meeting up?' or 'do you fancy going for a drink?'

I struggle to get on with my work colleagues outside of work. Actually, I have never socialised with any of them outside of work. I am not in a position of authority as such, but the people don't see me as one of them and everybody who works there have all been together so long, it's almost as if I would be intruding on already established friendships.

I have tried putting adverts on webistes to try and take up some hobbies or sports to meet people, but financial constraints mean that isn't always possible.

Any advice folks??

Thanks

I went on a website called City Socialising (www.citysociasling.com) which is made for exactly this reason. To be honest I didnt really get on with it and didnt really find that I 'clicked' with any of the people there, but I did have a good time on the socials I went to. I think it's just the luck of the draw who you meet. Definitely worth a try.

Aside from that, hobbies I suppose. Do you have any hobbies? I think it's probably the best way to meet people because then you know you share a common interest.

I'm not great at making friends either though, so probably not the best person to ask!

Ooh...I've heard of that website. Let us know how you get on...I'm kinda curious to try it out too! :D
Go to Glasgow at least once in your life and have a roll and square sliced sausage and a cup of tea. When you feel the tea coursing over your spice-singed tongue, you'll know what I mean when I say:
'It's good to be alive!'"
