Just for fun - should I, or shouldn't I?!

Postby Nomad » Thu May 14, 2015 9:16 am

What does everyone else think...

I'm letting a room in my house so have just met with a number of possible people to share with. One guy was really cute and right up my street in the wrong way for this situation so, even though he would make a great house mate, I'm turning him down on grounds of fancying him!

I'm going to send an email to let him know he unfortunately doesn't have the room. Do I let him know why, or just leave it and give no reason. I kind of like the idea of European honesty, and part of me wants him to know that I thought he was attractive. Or is that weird and I should just say nothing?

Thanks forum!

Don't let to someone you fancy, paying rent on time may be an issue. Let to someone who is working, you can trust and female. Remember to keep your valuables safe, also inspect the room every month to make sure they are cleaning it.
Don't listen to any sob stories, they will be telling you about 10% of the problems they have

Just say sorry the room is let

Thanks David - I think you misunderstood. I am an experienced house owner and landlord of many many years. It sounds like you have had some bad experiences.

I would certainly never live with someone I fancied, far too complicated. What I was saying is, should I mention the reason I am turning him down!

I decided to in the end, in the name of honesty! He was flattered and appreciated me telling him the reason.

Late to the game here, but I would say something on the off chance he might respond possibly and you might get a date out of it :) You didn't say how he responded, but you probably made his day nonetheless.

ha! thanks, yes, I figured if it was the other way around I would be flattered and happy. He wrote back saying thanks for your honesty...

the good news is I am now living happily with a new (female) house mate and her lovely dog. And still liking the guys that I can't have!!
