Depression: The 10 golden rules for yourself

Post by Liquidius » Sat May 28, 2005 5:54 pm

1. You should give yourself the same care and attention you give others.

2. You are not an "endless resource" for others. You must stock up on reserves and not get too drained.

3. You have needs too, which may be different from your family, friends and colleagues.

4. You dont have to say "yes" to all requests or feel guilty when saying no.

5. The perfect person doesn't exist. The good-enough one does.

6. You have the right to be treated with respect as a worthwile, intelligent and competent person.

7. You dont have to have everyone's approval all the time to know you are trying your hardest.

8. Time for unwinding is time very well spent.

9. Making mistakes is not a disaster. You can learn from these and it allows others to as well.

10. You must be fair to yourself and remember at all time, especially in the face of criticism, anxiety and difficulties. YOU ARE DOING THE BEST THAT YOU CAN.

:)

Very true those - got to agree with the endless resource one. I find I'm really only depressed when I'm helping other people or doing other people's work which sounds nasty to me, but it's true so well done for highlighting many of the problems people have with depression and low self-esteem =D>

I've also got to say that you're signature quote made me laugh
Judge of your natural character by what you do in your dreams

All of those are true, and good advise aswell. Unfortunatly though, it's hard to stick to those.

Some people Ive noticed, have lots of trouble with this one. I dont have that much trouble with it, except I am afraid people think that I might be egotistical or selfish, which Im not. Just simply trying to care for myself.

Great advice, im sticking to it despite what anyone else thinks. I am a selfless person but that doesnt mean I have to neglect myself all the time, now does it?

I can really relate to those, especially the guilty one, it happens to me all the time, people take advantage of me, cos i try to please all the time and feel guilty if i say no, my counsellor told me it's a feeling i have to ride out and it's really hard but i' doing it.

Thanks for those =D>
